Innovation

Hi MTB!

Reminder! By Tuesday you should all have read the article on innovation by Gurchiek. Since the main question of the article is how to motivate  people to innovate, we thought we’d motivate you! This YouTube video is an analysis by Steven Johnson on ‘Where good ideas come from’. In a very creative and visual way, Johnson explains the process of innovation step by step.

According to Johnson, one of the most important ingredients to create breakthrough innovations is the “pattern of the slow hunch”: ideas sometimes take 20 years to be successful! So there, people, no need to rush things…! Or is there? Because you all know how stressful the life of an MTB-student can be, especially when there’s so  little time to get a lot of work done (darn deadlines).

Thanks to Web 2.0, we are, nowadays, able to constantly connect with each other and, as Johnson states, “to reach out and exchange ideas with other people and to borrow other people’s hunches and combine them with our hunches and turn them into something new.” That’s why it is essential for us to work together in order to create the most innovative ideas.

And remember… chance favours the connected mind!

P.S.: If you’re not convinced yet, the video has turtles and beer!

See you all on Tuesday!

  1. Gosh, I've never seen anyone draw so fast.
No, seriously, I love his optimism about the internet as a source of enhanced connectivity and a driver of innovation (as well as a major distraction of course). Also note the way his take on 'environmental' concerns differs from ours in class.
