Eco car takes you from Brussels to Moscow and back on one litre of fuel

How many kilometres can you travel on one litre of fuel?

That is the challenge Shell presents each year to students from around the world. The Shell Eco Marathon invites inventive students to design, build and drive the most energy-efficient car. Logically, the winners are the teams that go the furthest using the least amount of energy.

The world record is held by the ETH Zürich (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich): they built the renowned PAC-Car II. How many kilometres do you think the world’s most fuel-economic vehicle travels on one litre? Prepare to be blown away: the PAC-Car II reached 5385 km with hydrogen equivalent to 1 litre of gasoline! This distance can be compared with a trip from Brussels to Moscow and back.

The Shell Eco Marathon takes place on three continents: Asia, Europe and the Americas. The Belgian VUB Eco Team participates in the European competition in the category battery electric. Would you like to see them? You won’t have to travel far : this year’s European Host City is Rotterdam. So don’t hesitate to support the Belgian VUB Eco Team from 16 to 18 May ! In addition, the entrance is free J
