Do you also
feel like you’re constantly buying new ink for your printer? As an old
fashioned student, who prefers studying on paper instead of on a screen, you can’t
avoid spending a ridiculous amount of money on this often pricy substance. The
(Belgian!) company Spranq came up with a smart way to solve this problem. The
idea is surprisingly simple: they developed Ecofont, a software that saves ink
and toner by making tiny holes in your characters. Thus, since printer ink is toxic,
the program allows to print cheaper and eco-friendly at the same time! It
almost seems too good to be true, right?!
The holes made
in the fonts are never visible on screen and on paper our brains ignore them.
You can only see them by looking very closely, or by using a magnifying glass.
Nevertheless, they have a marked effect. For example, tests show 28% savings
with Ecofont Arial 12pts, but the program allows you to save up to 50% without
even noticing a difference. On the website, you can calculate your personal savings
by entering some info about your type of printer and printing habits.
Ecofont
also developed an Enterprise Edition, since currently an increasing number of
organizations see the need to lower costs and move towards a sustainable
business.
For those
who are interested, you can buy the environmental friendly program online for
the measly sum of 19,95 euros or download the free demo-version at www.ecofont.com to try it out for a couple of weeks.
Within minutes the Ecofont software is installed and you can apply it on all
your commonly used fonts (Times New Roman, Verdana, Calibri, Trebuchet MS,
etc.). We are already big fans of this easy and eco-friendly way to save money while maintaining quality. One more tip: if you save your documents to PDF,
your readers will print Ecofonts too!

I think this is an awesome innovation! Especially for students like us, the cost of new ink for our printer can reduce our weekly budget dramatically... In addition to that, I think the software is very interesting for my parents who are sole traders that need to print a lot of invoices etc. I'll definitely show them this blogpost when I get home next weekend!
