Will we soon be replacing our toilet paper by bamboo napkins?

If it were up to  Green Hygienics… that’s a YES! No more tree-cutting. No more oxygen decreasing. No more environmental pollution.

The bamboo alternative

Green Hygienics is an Asian company that believes in the power of bamboo. As the largest bamboo paper supplier in the world, the company manufactures bath tissues, facial tissues, hand towels and napkins, all made of the tropical plant.

But why bamboo? Bamboo is one of the most planet-friendly tree substitutes, offering a multitude of advantages. The Chinese have utilized bamboo’s versatility for centuries in a variety of applications ranging from construction to medicine.

“Our bamboo products are far more earth-friendly than their conventional, paper-based alternatives. Bamboo can be grown and harvested in less than 5 years, during which time the bamboo will absorb more carbon dioxide and release more oxygen than a similarly-sized group of hardwood trees. Bamboo is a grass that does not require heavy chemical treatment to flourish, and unlike their hardwood counterparts, harvested bamboo fields maintain their root systems, which means less erosion and ultimately less chemical runoff. Finally, bamboo products such as diapers, wipes, and packaging that will potentially end up in landfills, will biodegrade at much faster rates than will petroleum-based diapers, cotton wipes, and foam packaging.”

Another advantage of the bamboo products, which is probably the most important one, is that they can spare billions of trees every year. In other words, using bamboo paper is far more eco-friendly than the hardwood alternative!

The Green Hygienics products, including the bamboo napkins, are being exported over the entire planet, from Africa to Europe. But is Belgium ready to replace the classic toilet paper by bamboo?!
