Live a greener life... and save some money too!

Hello dearest bloggers!

We frequently hear news about new ways to reduce our impact on the environment. However, sometimes we don’t know if they are true or false. We are busy finding new innovations that can help to live our life in a greener way, but it’s also important to think about actions you can implement at home or at the office. In this blog, we will try to summarize a couple of them that are certainly effective. In most of the cases, the purpose is to live greener, but a nice consequence of this is that you can also save money.

Ways to live greener = Ways to save money

The most obvious way to save energy at home is a good management of your thermostat. Lots of people don’t pay attention to this, while they can easily save money by only raising the temperature when it’s really necessary. A less obvious way to save energy  is to wash clothes in cold water if possible. Studies confirm that as much as 85 percent of the energy used to machine-wash clothes goes to heating the water! And if you are really serious about saving energy, you can also use a drying rack instead of a drying machine.

On top of that, there are a lot of tips to reduce your water use too. For example, you can install a low-flow shower head. The installation doesn’t cost much, and the water savings can quickly pay back your investment. In addition to that, try to reduce your shower time, a few minutes less showering each day can make a great difference in your wallet!

Eat and buy smart

Eating meat is an enormous cost for the environment and one of the biggest causes of global warming. That’s why you should really add at least one meatless day to your weekly menu. Meat costs a lot in the supermarket and there are really good substitutes such as vegetarian burgers or tofu, which have a lower impact on our planet. Another way to live greener is to stimulate the local economy. You can do this by purchasing from local farmers and by eating organic meat or eggs for example.

Moreover, when you do want to buy in shops, try to buy in bulk. When you purchase your food in big packaging and quantities, you can also save money thanks to the reduction. And last but not least: when you buy clothes, do this in a smart way, there are high-quality clothes that don’ t need to be dry-cleaned, so you can use them for a long time.

Now fellow bloggers, do you guys know other ways to save energy, water or time?

Greetings,
Dennis, Jacinta and Iwein.
