Hi bloggers!
Because next weekend (March 21-23), Let’s
do it! Belgium kicks off, we wanted to know how committed MTB-students are
when it comes to saving our environment.
As we’ve all noticed these last few years, there has been a huge rise of
all kinds of action movements that want to make our world a better place. Human
kind seems to be slowly recognizing the consequences of its polluting and
resource wasting lifestyle.
A call for action
One of the calls for action comes from a civic movement called Let's do it! World. This movement, that
started out in Estonia in 2008, consists of a large series of local, national
and regional clean-up events.
Let’s do it in de
vuilbak
We bet most of you have heard of Let’s
do it in de vuilbak, the part of the movement that targets young people. Do
you remember all the little movies made by schools or youth movements in which
they filmed original ways to put trash in the garbage by
doing stunts and tricks (like this cute one, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDycu5uabvA)? Maybe some of you even made a movie and participated
in the voting competition.
But is this a
solution?
Although these waste pick-up events take place each year, the litter
problem continues to exist. So a lot of people believe a better approach would
be to prevent the problem by using less or biodegradable packaging.
What do you think? Are you willing to spend a whole day picking up trash
along a roadside when you know polluters will undo al your work in no time?
