Hello Eco-lovers !
As you all know, every
city is familiar with the problem of people urinating in public. As a result of this ‘plein air’ urinating,
some cities now have a distinctive and awful pee smell. The city of San Francisco found a solution to
this problem.
To help alleviate this problem while also injecting a bit of green into
the city, Brent Bucknum of Hyphae Design Laboratory has created a chemical-free
public urinal/garden: The PPlanter!
PPlanter is a rapidly deployable, public urinal and sink that uses
modular biofilters to treat urine and wastewater. The filtered water is then
used to water the plants.
As you can see in the picture, the odor-free PPlanter doesn’t offer much
privacy. But on the other hand, that’s kind of the point. Without any sort of
full enclosure, anyone looking to (illegally) do their business in public will
be discouraged because everyone can more
or less see what you’re doing.
In short, it’s a pee pit stop designed for (legally)
doing your business when most needed, admiring the cleverness of the whole
thing for a second, and then bolt before you are recognized.
Do you guys think this innovation can solve
the odor problem of the big cities? And what’s more important, would you use it?
Do you want to know more about this eco-innovation?

BeantwoordenVerwijderenI am a real fan of the installation of the PPlanter in some big cities. In Aalst for example, a lot of people urinate against the church or other buildings when they go out. As a consequence the smell can be disgusting the day after. I sincerely think the PPlanter can fix this problem, as not many among these illegally urinating people will care about the lack of privacy they will be confronted with. On top of that, the city will become greener as well thanks to these PPlanters.
