You already use your
bike instead of your car? Great, but you can do better: use the BAMBOO BIKE!
Hi bloggers!
Last week, Sarah, Klaas and Klara already
mentioned the bamboo napkins. We were wondering what else was possible with this
beautiful tropical plant. Some research led us the bamboo bike.
Though the bicycle is hard to beat as a
low-carbon, local transportation system, you still can do better: use the
bamboo bike!
Most
bike frames are produced in a very eco-unfriendly way using artificial
materials like steel, aluminum and titanium. Bamboo frames, however, are made
of natural materials that are both recyclable and sustainable. Bamboo is a
renewable natural resource that grows very fast in moderate and tropical
climates (up to 1 meter a day!). Furthermore, the bikes are produced without
the use of electricity.
Still not convinced?
The bamboo bike provides a very comfortable
ride for the biker. Bamboo absorbs road shocks and vibrations better than
artificial materials, which is particularly useful on the many rocky roads in
Ghent. Moreover, so far you only see a few of them on the street, so if you
want a unique bike, go for the bamboo bike!

I really like this bamboo design, but I'm afraid it is more easy to steal such a bike and sell all the parts, don't you think?

BeantwoordenVerwijderenPersonally I think it is a great initiative to use bamboo for the production of bikes. However, I have two major concerns about this innovation. First of all, I would like to know how expensive such a bike is. If it is significantly cheaper than a regular bike, I will surely consider to buy one. Moreover, I think it is important to have some further details on the solidity of the bike. Otherwise a lot of people will think it will be broken after just a small accident. And what if the bamboo bike becomes a true hype? Won’t there be any negative consequences for the environment?
